The last hour of every day at the Smithsonian’s design museum is pay-what-you-wish. Design Across Time fills the first floor of Andrew Carnegie’s mansion with graphic design, furniture, textiles and wallcoverings from the national design collection, and rarely shown sketches from Frederic Church’s 1865 trip to Jamaica fill a new show.
